We are pleased to announce that Jennifer Apell, graduate student in Civil And Environmental Engineering, has been crowned the 2013 Earth Day Challenge winner – for the second year in a row! Take a look at the top 5 challengers and get geared up for Earth Day 2014! Thank you to all of our Challenge participants for making Earth Day at MIT a success. Today! Screening of “Chasing Ice”

Don’t miss out! Join us today — Friday, April 26, 2013  at 4:00PM in 6-120 for a special Earth Day screening of “Chasing Ice.”

MIT Libraries in cooperation with the MIT Earth Day Committee and the Joint Program on the Science and Policy of Global Change present a film viewing of Chasing Ice. Film will be introduced by Kerry Emanuel, Professor of Atmospheric Science at MIT.

This 2012 Oscar nominated documentary follows photographer James Balog and his crew as they as they conduct the Extreme Ice Survey, deploying time lapse cameras to capture a multi-year record of the world’s changing glaciers.

Refreshments at 4 PM in lobby outside 6-120; Film starts at 4:30 in 6-120. Free and open to the public.

Welcome to the 2013 MIT Earth Day Challenge!

Starting Saturday April 20, 2013, you’ve got just over a week to be crowned the EARTH DAY CHAMPION and win the grand prize of $250. Challenge runs ’til April 28th, so get your green on!


Step 1: Register hereearth_day_logo2013 to be eligible to win prizes and stay up to date on the latest Earth Day Challenge info!

Step 2: Peruse the Action Projects and map out which ones you plan to do! Some are scheduled events and some you can do at home or on the go!

Step 3: GO GREEN, MIT! Starting April 20th, complete as many Action Projects as you can!

NOTE TO PARTICIPANTS: Challenge ends Sunday, April 28th. Make sure to follow the instructions for each project so that your points are logged. All participants will be entered into a raffle to win awesome, green prizes. Get the most points and become the MIT Earth Day Champion for the grand prize of $250.

Winners will be announced via email the week of April 28th, 2013. Good luck!
